Recognised this straight away from Alan's original, so must be good!

I thought it was Alan's !! This is tremendous, Fiona. Well done! I'm trying it in acrylics as we speak but not having a lot of success, (and that's why I'm here and not at my canvas).

I've not looked at Alan's original yet Fiona as I thought this was by him when I came to the gallery. I'll check Alan's out now. I certainly like this painting. Thank you for your gentle bullying on my gallery. I've not had a chance to do any painting this week. By the way I also like your tractor sketch and loved the red tractor painting. I think perhaps I need some tuition as so far it's all been a bit experimental -relying on books etc.

Thats more like the work you can do. ---- Great stuff

Not only have you got Alan's palette and style in the landscape, you've also got the feel of his skies - both of which are remarkable achievements. You'll have found it interesting, and obviously did, that although Alan's paintings look fairly simple to do - they're not. It's also interesting to compare Alan's paintings with his great love, Ted Wesson, and also with the studies based on James Fletcher-Watson and Edward Seago - it's like handwriting; it's unique. So unless you're a master-forger (that must be entirely soul-destroying, but quite possibly enriching....) your character will always come through your paintings, as Alan's comes through his. That, of course, as a good teacher, is what he'd want. You can learn so much from this sort of thing.

Thank you Stephen, there's me thinking it was going to be an easier one......Nope!! Lionel, I'm looking forward to seeing how this comes out in acrylic's, I'm glad I'm not the only one to have one or two struggles with Alan's 'simple' style. It beats me how he makes it look so easy.....lots of talent and experience probably has a lot to do with it! Thank you for your lovely compliment.

Carol thank you so much for leaving your lovely comment. Books, dvd's, any art programe on the tv, in fact anything to do with art I read or watched. However, I've learnt so much more since posting on POL, the advise, encouragement and 'pats on the head' from other posters are more of an incentive to do well and keep trying. Stick with it Carol, I'm sure you will succeed.

Cheers Charles!! Yes Robert, I fell into a false sense of security with this one of alan's......I thought, I can do this....you already know the rest of course. Still not as easy as Alan makes it look!

Lovely simple brushstrokes and colours, good one Fiona. Alan will be pleased!

A lovely painting Fiona love the colours.

Thank you so much Carole and Glennis for your encouraging words.

I haven't seen the original, but this is stunning....love those boats :)

A lively, vibrant painting, Fiona. Love the brushwork!

Not as easy as I first thought it would be Alan........still enjoyed the challenge! There are one or two areas I'm not altogether happy with; the dark wash around the rocks & the rocks themselves. I think overall the tones are okay, the odd area of good counter change. Old Holland watercolours on Arches. Thanks Alan.
