As a sketch, I think it is ok, Fiona. You already mentioned the (no offense) "mistakes" but I like it anyway.

every painting is a bit more learning Fiona ,the thing is ,,,we are enjoying ourselves ....I tried to make the bridge ,cotswold stone colour.(burnt umber .touch of cobalt) thats if I am not going to do it in the old yorkshire stone (raw umber touch of cobalt) colour ..,, and yes it is a good sketch .and I like the sky I try and get away from the ,to natural a sky look ,,a perfect sky looks odd ball in a loose sketch

Brave effort, and you'll notice I didn't try it! Stronger darks would have helped, but Alan set you a hard task - thing is, I don't think he knew how hard it was (or pretended he didn't), because he's so good at this sort of thing and can do it easily.... Don't rush this sort of thing; take your time, sketch it, do smaller studies; you've got to get the preliminary sketch right if you want to achieve accuracy in the arches of the bridge; then add the watercolour washes. While you can change oils and acrylics almost endlessly, you can't do that with watercolour - I thought when I saw Alan's original that this was going to be a lot more difficult than he suggested it should be...... Which is why I didn't try it!

It works really well for me Fiona - in the meantime just keep at it as I do and we'll get there one day - not sure where mind you. M

Thanks very much everyone, I didn't really expect any comments as I posted the result for Alan for his feedback, but the more the merrier! I used R. Sienna and B. Umber for the stone work Alan, U. marine, Cad Yellow with a touch of B. Sienna for the greens, which I don't think were quite dark enough. Over all Alan I did have fun and hopefully I'll have a proper go when I get the chance. It also made me face architecture and a few figures too!

I love it, Fiona! I love the free lines and the tints that so complement the ink. Fab!

Thank you once again Seok.

Lovely scene in pen & wash Fiona.

Thanks Carole, I hope to have a proper go at it, at some point.

Pen & wash sketch of Alan's bridge. If I do a watercolour of it Alan I need to make my dark tones much darker, it's turned out a bit pale. I also need to make sure the bridge arches are the same size! Never mind it's only a sketch!
