I'd like to see it in oils, I think it would work well, its similar in colours to your,"approaching storm",

Ah - a sketchette (female form of sketch?) of the day from Fiona! This has turned out very nicely - really good water and a nice pastoral feel to it.

Thank you both very much for your comments, they are really appreciated. Kevin, I really fancy having a go in oils I'll post the results. A 'sketchette' ...mmm...do you think it'll catch on? I don't have Alan's talent or stamina to do one a day!

You have produced a really nice painting, Fiona. The sky, the water and the tree on the left are all particularly well done. I like the colours you have used. However, (sorry about this), I have some concern with the line of trees that run across the middle ground and behind the building. They are too consistent in colour; introduce a little variation, perhaps with some highlight along part of the tops. More importantly, they are also generally too dark. The same darkness, in fact, as the foreground elements, the bridge etc. Look again at Alan's picture and the tree behind his building and you will see what I mean. I do hope you don't mind these remarks, Fiona; they are meant to be helpful.

Lionel, of course I don't mind your remarks, it's kind of you to take the time to comment at all, and it IS very helpful. I should see these problems myself and act accordingly but sometimes you don't see them, although they are obvious when pointed out. I want to learn to be a better painter and there is so much experience, talent and generosity on this site. So many people who are all too willing to give advise and share techniques.......what a resource!! So thank you Lionel, I will attend to my mistakes today.Lol!!

Thanks, Fiona. You have made me feel much better. Feelings of guilt were beginning to intrude, especially as I cannot handle watercolours! And 03.35 is not a good time to be posting remarks on other peoples work. But it is a very attractive picture of which you should be proud.

Thank you for the invitation to have a go at one of your watercolours Alan, I'm afraid I haven't done it justice though. I might have a go at the same one but in oils. Painted on Saunders waterford 140rough.
