This is lovely, Ellie. Super skin tones (lips look great!) and lovely eyes. I found the transition from children's faces to adults tricky because you suddenly had to deal with deeper lines. etc. You have a done a grand job with this portrait. Glad the tip helped. Now you have to tell me how to paint hair as I am totally rubbish at it!

Lovely painting Ellie - super smile which is difficult to do. I am sure the the portrait will be well received.

May I say I think "rubbish" might be overstating the case. :) I love your style of painting. As to hairI wish I could offer some useful advice! Hair is a bit of a hit and miss area for me. I just use a no.10 round brush and layer it up slowly following the way it grows/ is lying. That's about it. I'm definitely at the make-it-up-as-I-go-along stage with my paintings generally . I keep going until it looks OK and hope I don't stuff it up too much. I only ever use two blues, two yellows, two reds and very rarely paynes grey (bit scared of those huge displays of hundreds of colours) so Linnea's hair is lots of slightly different mixes of light red and ultramarine over the top of a light wash of raw sienna :)

What a great portrait Ellie - so difficult in any medium let alone watercolour

I admire anyone who can paint a portrait, and especially in watercolor! This is such a joyful portrait, Ellie! The skin tones are superbly done and the colors are subtle yet they lend vibrance and energy to the face. It's lovely!

Great portrait Ellie, all the features of her face and the shape and the skin tones are just excellent, super work on her hair as well, you have given it a sheen that I am sure she will have been delighted with

Having a go at some slightly more grown-up faces. This my older daughter's flute teacher. She hasn't seen it yet, so I don't know whether she will like it. With great thanks to Thea, whose tip of adding just a touch of cerulean to the mix for her lips was just perfect!
