Tall ships in harbour Normandy coast.
This is a copy of a painting by Jongkind. I wanted to see if I could try to create this picture by using a similar technique and brush strokes that he would have used. I had to measure the painting down to the nearest millimetre to ensure that it was as near to the original as I possibly could and to the exact dimensions as the original painting. Jongkind revived the Dutch tradition of open landscapes and seascapes but in a newer and freer form, which caused Signac later to describe him as' the first impressionist. He painted chiefly along the coast of Normandy, where he swiftly transferred his immediate impressions of a scene to canvas. Oil on canvas, size 17" x 24".
