What a great scenery, David. Love the way the path is leading the eye into the composition. Beautiful colour palette too.

I recognised your colours, David when only the top half of the painting was on my screen. I thought I didn't know where Petre Bank is but it's amazing what you can find out on Google Images. My Mum used to refer to the long white row simply as the miners' houses.

Thank you both for those much appreciated comments. For once, this view is exactly what I faced, with nothing moved to improve the composition. The palette is my usual ultramarine, raw & burnt siennas, and green gold, all dulled down to reflect the grey nature of the day. The cottages of Petre Bank are over the bank on the left, which is about 50 feet high. The gap between the bank and the trees on my right acted as a wind tunnel while I was painting - all good fun!

The strong tones make this work very well.

Like the colours - great trees, David

Thank you, Stephen and Maureen, glad you like it.

HIGHER Poynton, MIDDLE of July, LOWER temperatures than April !! A dull, grey day with a strong, cold wind and flat lighting, but SO good to be out in the fields at the easel again!
