Love boats and your water is wonderfull

You've captured something of the special atmosphere of Suffolk here, David, and avoided detail. Lovely sky. I've seen these boats at Iken and they are a wonderful sight.

Thanks for your comments, glad you feel the same about these magnificent vessels. Once I stepped back from the painting, I was surprised how well the water worked. It&#39;s just 3 applications of dry-brush, darkening the tone slightly each time. Stepping back is natural when painting outdoors but tends to get forgotten when painting at home, at a desk. This is certainly not the best position to judge your painting from, is it? <br />

Thames Barges are one of my favourite subjects and I should spend more time painting them. Their bulk and majesty, sailing, moored or beached, never cease to appeal. In preparation for an imminent trip to the Suffolk coast I dug out some old sketches & photos to paint from to get myself in the mood.
