I love your sketches David.

I like both this and the colour version. A very good idea to print out the sketch and try different colours on it. Some time ago I went through a phase of having copies of ink sketches done on thin watercolour paper, to which I added washes and sold a few in local shops. I suppose you could print your sketch onto watercolour paper on your computer?

Glad you both like the sketches. I might be able to print onto lightweight watercolour paper, Stephen. I've tried 140lb but my cheap printer seizes up and jams. I suppose 90lb paper would work as the cartridge paper I use is 165gsm/109lb.

This is a quick pen sketch done on a Lakeland walk. Back home, I wanted to use it for a watercolour painting but wasn’t sure what colours I wanted to use. To avoid spoiling the original sketch, or wasting watercolour paper, I devised “Colour Trials” by scanning the A5 sketch into the computer, then printing it off at A4 on cartridge paper. This way I can print off as many copies as I want and make colour sketches until I find the treatment I like best.
