Excellent painting Russell it’s great that you found and posted it .

I’m glad you found it though Russell, it’s interesting to see such a different subject. A bit disappointed to hear that you hadn’t drawn this “from life”…..So many dangerous jobs - tunnels built, bridges etc. I can’t imagine someone so high up and managing it. I think I’ve seen the men having a break, sitting on girders, maybe the same building. Very well done on your part!

Incredible. Both the drawing and the scene itself - Something different from you Russell!

Fabulous then and fabulous now!

No health and safety experts having hissy fits in those days, just a generation of brave men getting the job done! A super painting Russell.

These guys give me recurring nightmares, as did steeplejack Fred Dibna from my home town. , Great work Russel.

The photos of these workers are mind-bending. A great depiction of that here.

Crazy isn’t it, but at least they had their flat caps on!! Great painting of an incredible feat and sight. Wouldn’t get me anywhere near that. 😫

Super Russell. Great composition. I love the way you've emphasised the height. You could take the canvas off the warped frame and glue down on some ply or mdf. It's worth saving. Deserves to come out from behind the wardrobe for sure.

Superb Russell, when men had nerves of steel.

Thank you all for your lovely comments

Amazing Russell- both the painting and the subject. A great find.

I love it Russell. It's a great painting.

Wow, great composition. Love it!

Wow beautiful work Russell. Fab composition. 😍

Sorry I've not been around recently but I barely painted at all this year. having worked on a construction project and walked along open beams (which was dumb, I know) this drawing give me the heeby-jeebies as a health-and-safter nightmare, but stunningly drawn, as always! Fantastic. Beautiful my lovely friend. Have yourself a joyful Christmas and a peaceful New Year xx

100cm x 50cm A long forgotten painting stuffed behind a wardrobe, ( surprising what you find when decorating! ) painted this in 2014 from a photo - obviously! - after reading a book about steel erectors and the construction of the Empire State Building. Purposely made the vertical girders longer to emphasise the height they worked at - fearless men. Painted on a cheap canvas that began to warp even before I'd completed it!
