Although we have wonderful scenes in Britain to paint, Liz and I wanted to visit Venice as many Artists want to do. We stayed near the Rialto Bridge in a B+B. We have visited Venice a few times since and always in November to avoid the crowds!!! I used a simple wet into wet Winsor Blue(red shade) sky so as not to compete with this complicated scene.

Watercolour, 27”x 20”, this large painting was done after we returned from Venice. We flew by Easyjet into Marco Polo airport and caught the shuttle bus to the Vaporetto(water bus) terminal. It was dusk on a November evening and it was just like walking into a film set…….amazing. We spent 4 days in Venice, sketching every day. This scene was photographed in detail and not sketched as I wanted to do a detailed painting when we got home.
