Lovely snow scene, bit like that here today!

“Let’s go tobogganing”, Tirol, Austria 56x38cm on Arches rough 300gIt was a bright winter day when we pulled our sledge uphill a mountain road near my home town. The sun has already melted the snow on the birch trees alongside our road. I painted this scene out of my memory and with the help of a couple of reference photos I took during that day. The two people (my wife and one of our boys) in the far distance are the focal point. I painted them high up, just before the road makes a turn, to get a feeling for the distance. The highest contrast is in the middle ground with the dark band of fir trees. The mountains in the background I tried to keep as simple as possible, but still capture the light on the very top.
