It certainly attracts the eye Carol and it's well painted, but not sure what you are trying to achieve not knowing the actual scene and light. Time of day, light source I would add more texture, colour or tone to the mountains themselves especially with that type of sky. Relegation is your choice, then try again but it seems to worth saving to me.

I always find that if I myself have doubts then, no matter what anyone else says, i will never be pleased with it. You may be tied in to what you saw and therefore can't be objective. From my point of view it works well up to the edge of the clouds but then the sky is too strong. The mountains are where the interest lies for me and you've got the light on them perfectly. Being objective ( because it's not my painting and I haven't struggled with it) I would feather the edges of the clouds ( even if they weren't at the time ) and graduate the sky colour, lighter next to the cloud edge. Because, for me, the lower part of the painting is the interest.however, I can only say this because I haven't struggled with it. If you look at some of my efforts, I have the same probs as you!

Thank you Derek and Marjorie for your very helpful and understanding comments. I think your first sentence Marjorie really hit the nail on the head. I think I will put it aside for now and rather than amend or discard this version I may try again with a completely fresh attempt at the same scene. Thanks again for commenting.

A further painting resulting from my recent stay in Keswick. Water based oils. I'm really not sure about this one -struggled to get the true light that was there. I think this may be relegated to the supply of canvas boards available for re-use!!! C & C welcome. (I'll be brave!)
