The word ‘booby’ is from the Spanish word ‘bobo’ whic means stupid or clownish. When these birds dance they certainly resemble clowns.

What a great bird Carole and a beautiful painting. You always get such lovely rich colours.

Lovely Carole and how interesting.

Lovely picture, really good colours.

A curious looking bird with character! Nicely painted Carole.

Lovely bird painting Carole, there are so many birds I have never seen before.

I nearly didn’t post this as it’s so old but I find I learn so much from the birds that are posted here so I thought it might interest those of you who hadn’t heard of this bird. Thank you so much everyone for your interest and endearing comments - always so welcome Sarah, Denise, Petra, Stephen, Tessa and Gillian

The background works well with that very convincing booby Carole.

An old painting for my (now) late brother in law. He had seen them in the Galápagos Islands and wanted a memory of his visit there. The male bird use their bright blue feet in a comical dance, to attract the female. Painted and adapted from photos my brother-in-law had taken of these remarkable birds. Soft pastels 10” x 12”.
