I prepared this composite mixed media sketch to encourage those on my courses to experiment with different approaches when we looked at Urban Sketching. From top left clockwise; water-soluble crayons, no water added; monochrome with a Kurecolour marker pen and fine liner notes added; two pairs of line drawings, fine liner and biro, one of each with watercolour tints added; a study in violet with three different manufacturers markers, Pilot, Stabilayout and Speedry Magic Marker; monochrome with dip pen, water-soluble ink and watercolour brush, size 12 round; pencil line and full watercolour; pencil line with tone added from a Pilot Croquis pencil; and finally bottom left, water-soluble fine liner worked with a water-filled brush pen. This is pretty tame stuff compared with what is being turned out in urban sketching groups all over the place but it set things going. Try Googling Urban Sketching and get inspired.
