Impressive work Brian, is it my eyes, or is there a slight lean to the right on those left hand buildings?

Wonderful watercolour, Brian.

Another of your very good paintings, Brian, but not of Sheffield this time!

Like the three items I've just posted on my Blog, this is another example of the underpainting in action, this time not a demo' for a class but painted to occupy me while doing duty at the annual "Ten Artists" fundraising exhibition. I love the genre of the single point perspective street scene. This was an adrenaline-charged effort completed in less than an hour and it's important that it should be so; wet-in wet requires fluidity and momentum, wet on dry can come at the end and working strategically around the painting means the timing of these processes can be controlled and synchronised. I wanted to concentrate my darks at street level with a flotilla of marks to represent shop fronts, figures, street furniture and so on. Look carefully at the mix of edges, timings, techniques and values to get the effects, including lifting out and the use of body colour whites in the reflections.
