I've looked at this house in two ways on two separate occasions at the client's request; namely as it stands now and as it once was, the owner having traced its history. This, the "now" view is typical of the way in which I often render a property with several sides to its personality, necessitating a composite painting. Like all such designs it requires an in-depth discussion with my client to exchange our thoughts and ideas, followed by extensive photography from a number of aspects. This is followed by a thumbnail layout - a tonal rendering, to scale, in pencil usually a week or so later, to agree content and format. It gives a very good idea of how the final product will feel; in fact client's have been known to frame the thumbnail, as well as the finished painting which follows. This final watercolour outcome was roughly 80cm x 60cm. Have a zoom in; note the stone gate post in the centre of the yard, which features in the second painting. (See Baslow 2)
