This is the sister painting to "Property Illustration, Baslow (1)" from the same aspect as the bottom left view. Some centuries earlier, the man of the house was a wheelwright and farmer, living with his family on an upper floor while the ground floor was shared between his livestock and a makeshift coach shed. A visitor chats to the lady of the house, front left, at the foot of an external staircase, since demolished for several later extensions /alterations, while her husband wheels out a repaired wagon through barn doors which are now a large bay window (see the other painting). The house is thatched, with no glass in the windows; a son sits in the shade at right plucking a bird for a special dinner and the stone post seen in the other painting sits with its gate in the centre of this yard which was apparently something of a local thoroughfare. Fascinating stuff and a joy to put together. I and my client both felt a sense of achievement by the end of it.
