Is that a new red signature I spy? Cracking work Barry, can't wait to see how it all shakes down over the coming months!

Lovely jubbly classic stuff well done the coming months should be very interesting indeed Barry

Thanks Karen and Dennis, exciting times for me I hope the knowledge I have soaked up can be converted into good results. Sorry to disappoint Karen but I have been signing in red long before meeting Alvaro.

I thought it was blood after the intensity of the course Barry

Your excitement comes over in your painting Barry, and I love your new interpretation. Look forward seeing where it takes you!

Excellent stuff Barry, two weeks obviously well spent. Simplifying a view is often the hardest of things to do but success is often a result of what is left out as well as what is put in. The effect here is brilliant.

You got a great improvement Barry, and you learned a lot in such a short time. Great style.

Thank you Fiona, Peter and Cesare, it's great that you are all making very positive comments.

Though I was sweating blood at times Dennis!!!

Great light. Look forward to more. It sounds like you had a fantastic two weeks.

I have to check out this place this summer, although I doubt I'll end up with anything close to this masterpiece. It looks effortless but I bet it was intense.

Fabulous work, Barry. The strong sunshine is beautifully depicted and contrasts very well with the misty backdrop.

My last effort from the course with Alvaro Castignet, painted Plein air yesterday and based on a demonstration by Alvaro. The effect of the workshop over the long term is yet to be seen but I already feel that design, washes and brush strokes have improved. I am amazed by how much he leaves out I thought I was pretty good at simplification but he takes it to a new level. Have enjoyed two great weeks at Dedham Hall and am now all fired up and hope to produce some good work in the coming weeks.

About the Artist
Barry Hulme

I started painting in 2004, I am influenced by Wesson, Seago and many of the great masters, more recently I enjoy the work of Steve Hall, John Hoar and Alvaro Castignet to name but a few. I paint in a loose style and try to simplify as I can. The medium I enjoy most is watercolour but dabble with…
