Paynes gray always a good choice but with the lightest of naples yellow it's even more subtle...less clinical in pale tones. Interesting image.

Brilliant, thank you It will definitely be just the right tone for my next commission because There are not as many constraints, these other ones had to be totally monochrome. have you tried the liquid pencil? Discovering this forum has been a real you. Do you post your own work?

Yes I do...roger k...thanks for taking an interest. Your paintings are consistently interesting. Oddly, I never use black and white, unlike Manet!

this was a trial piece for a commission of 9 different garden views. I was a bit concerned by the black and white so used paynes grey. Really enjoyed it and happened to have some great small textural materials
