Superb artwork Alix.

A stunner, all those different textures are excellent and you have certainly captured warmth and vivacity in her face

An incredible portrait with great treatment of light, detail and colour. Such an interesting face full of character. That’s some headdress Alix.

Stephen, Heather, Dixie and Carole. I'm most grateful for your comments and observations. I'm continuing, from time to time, doing these interesting subjects with plain backgrounds and this one certainly needs to have nothing distracting behind it! There's so much going on and it was quite an exercise to paint the various parts. I think it was worthwhile as I had to loosen up for some parts and tighten up for others. Exhausting it certainly was!

Brilliant painting Alix.

Thank you, Russell, very kind of you. Sometimes I look back at a painting and wonder how I did it!

David, thank you for your very kind comment.

Ah! Spencer, how kind! But my style keeps changing. I can't stop it!

Superb painting and wonderful details. Great job.

Thank you so much, Joop, and apologies for late reply but I've been away during which I caught Covid. Second time it's happened on holiday so I really ought to stay in my studio!

Just heard that this has won in the Special Merit category of the Figurative competition run by Light Space & Time. 605 entries from 23 countries. This is the category just below the top 20 entries. Chuffed!

I met this delightfully friendly woman when travelling in her area. She spoke to me in superbly accented English and I asked where she had learned it. She said she had just picked it up through meeting tourists! Clever woman! Her amazing headdress and necklaces just cried out to be painted but I did struggle with her shaded face as I’m not a portrait painter on this scale.
