hi they look like they have had a hard day beatiful work xx

Love this Alix and reading about the lengths you had to go too to get the photo's being a women in the UAE! Love the super strong colours, rich skintones, and superb figurework, the background colour is great as well highlighting the blues in the clothing, super work!

Thanks so much, Paula and Ros. Notes for this painting have hung around for quite a while and only surfaced the other day. House move some months ago means a large measure of chaos in my studio! The headdresses and faces indicate that they men come from 3 different areas.

This is great piece! I love the composition, they look like they're putting the world to rights! I especially love the little guy perched on the arm and leaning in to get his point across, your rendering of the drapes and folds of their robes and headwear is very impressive :)

Thanks, Abigail. Having spent very many years as a military artist working on official commissions, folds in uniforms and other clothing are something I've never been able to avoid! You can get quite bogged down in how fabric hangs and lies but I'm trying to loosen up from my more graphic days working on the military stuff.

Great painting and well worth the deception to get it.

Great painting & great gallery. This painting tells a story. Your figures are very well painted. I like the way they are posed. Very convincing. You certainly get around, judging from your gallery.

Thanks so much for your kind words, Dawn and Andy. Yes, I have got around a fair bit over the years and no doubt more people and places will crop up in my paintings at some time or another!

Thanks, Gudrun. I do rather hop about with what I paint. The one on the easel at the moment is an English street scene! Several bicycles which are not easy but then I have painted many military bandsmen with French horns and they are the hardest! Are you Norwegian? My sister-in-law is.

A few years ago I visited the goat market in Al Ain, UAE. The market had just closed and some of the wilder-looking people clearly did not want to be photographed. Being a woman, too, was obviously not helpful. I managed to take some photos aiming over my son's shoulder and pretending to photograph him - but he is about 6 foot 5 inches so not an easy task from my 5 foot 6inches! I put together this picture to tell a typical story of such markets.
