Herons and egrets visit the River Test which runs through my village. There are several bridges from which it's possible to catch sight of them. It's fascinating to watch how, when in the pose I painted, their necks are thick but, when actively looking for a meal they stretch them so far out and the neck becomes much thinner. As for the way they can look at you with a superior expression.........!
