Great textures and gradations of those marvellous blues you use Alan.

I agree, very effective and striking painting Alan. What blues do you use, out of interest?

It works a treat, Alan. The swift and heavy application of paint is wonderfully expressive, but with your own distinctive palette and style. The light is superb and the blues are gorgeous. Are you blending Phthalo blue in there somewhere? Whatever, it really does draw the eye. Bri

I just love those blues, Alan, they’re really vibrant.

Always eye catching are your pictures Alan and this no exception.

Wonderful one, Alan.

Thanks everyone for commenting, appreciated. Tessa and Brian, yes just a touch of Phthalo Blue, mainly Ultramarine and Cobalt Blue. I have used some Phaltho Green in the sea, but the camera hasn't picked it up.

Lovely blues... Great one alan

Your chosen palette has a dazzling effect Alan.

Lovely colour and texture Alan beautifully painted

A rather different subject for you Alan - but great colours as usual - lovely.

Colour experiments are always interesting, and your style and skill make this lovely. I know the place well.

Interesting that the blues struck people so forcibly, because that's what got me, too.... I was put off mixing blues for years, having read (and I think misunderstanding) a book by the painter Adrian Hill - a former TV artist. He was irritated by someone mixing three different blues in the same sky, but I think it wasn't the mixing that annoyed him, but that they'd painted these blues in discrete bands. Which must, indeed, have looked odd. But in case anyone was wondering - THIS is the way to combine blues in a painting - the Bickley Way!

Super...colour so inspiring and great loose knife work, Alan!

Your brushwork describes the subject so beautifully. I love the palette with the warm areas

Thanks once again for your support. Yes Robert, I remember him well, I have a small book of his somewhere. Sketch Club was his weekly Friday programme.

Love those wonderful blues Alan. My favourite colour. This is very vibrant.

Alla prima oil on board 25 x 40cm. I painted a small series of rock stacks from around our coast last year. They are really simple subjects and you can be quite expressive by using plenty of oil paint, vibrant colours and some bold knife and brush strokes. Old Harry was missed out, so I’ve now included it and painted it from a couple of angles – I’ll post the other one another day.
