Certainly have enjoyed your sketches Alan and look forward to seeing any oil paintings that follow. I find It makes so much difference to my memory of a scene if I have sketched it at the time and this is another excellent aide memoir.

Wonderful work Alan. Thank you for sharing your lovely sketches. Hope you find them useful in producing further masterpieces. At least you don’t need to rely on Plein air work in the UK. Can’t wait to get back out to Spain in order to paint outside.

This is truly gorgeous, those deep indigo shadows are fabulous, Alan! I've never ventured plein air with my inks...this might inspire me to have a go! As Barry and Carole say, all your sketches from your recent visit to Espana are brilliant.I too look forward to seeing them worked up into oils!

Thanks Barry, Carole and Thalia. I use a rigger brush for most of my ink sketches, I find that I can achieve better variations of line. For the ink, I drop a few spots into a dipper, the one's used in oil painting, this clips to my pad - simple as that!

Glad you got home safely Alan another wonderful study technically excellent as ever

Simple and efficient Alan. Never quite got as far as Denia. Benidorm and Terra Mitica were as far as we got in that direction as we were based in El Campello. Lovely territory away from the tourists.

Excellent tonal values.

I love your beautiful sketches, Alan - another lovely strong image.

Super sketch Alan, great sense of place, and your choice of paper and media seems to suit the Spanish sunshine and scenery very well.

This is another great sketch Alan, I've enjoyed all of your holiday pieces.

Very nice one, Alan! Super economy of line here.

That’s excellent Alan

Back in the UK and I hope that you have enjoyed looking at my sketches and oil paintings made during my trip to Spain. Thank you for your comments and kind words. I’ve bought back a fair bit of useful information, which may come in handy for working up a few large oils during the months ahead. I haven’t posted all of them, far too many and some are simple scribbles and colour notes in a sketch pad. This is a small part of the castle, which has a commanding view over the city. Fabulous shadows which is what caught my attention. Indigo acrylic ink on A4 Strathmore Tan paper.
