Denia Castle Rampart - Plein air oil sketch.

Denia Castle Rampart - Plein air oil sketch.

A lovely one Alan, that beautiful blue. I'm still painting for Patchings! Yesterday, a mishap - fell on my face while out for a walk. Left hand / wrist badly sprained and swollen, nose and eye not a pretty sight, luckily not my painting hand. Tell you what, I'll swap places with you.

Stunning view Alan.

Yes very envious Alan, looks like you have all the relevant elements for a studio piece, I look forward to seeing it.

Super painting Alan, the castle is really imposing and the houses seem so close to it! A larger oil of this would be marvellous.

Thanks so much for your comments, always appreciated.

Super sketch, Alan! those deep shadows work a treat!

I missed this one, Alan. It's a gorgeous sketch, with all the elements for a larger studio version. The light is great and those deep shadows make a hell of a difference. Great work and eye. Bri

Hang on Studio Wall

An early morning oil sketch, with part of this historic castle acting as an imposing backdrop. Some good strong shadows evident, which always helps to give depth to a painting. I’ve only managed a few oils so far on my latest visit, concentrating mainly on ink sketches which number around two dozen and counting - thanks for all the positive comments on those I’ve selected to post so far. Oil on board 30 x 40cm. I’ll be concentrating on more oils in the coming week, the colours and light here are so gorgeous, it’s a pity not to record them on canvas! There should be enough information recorded here for a later larger studio painting.
