Love the wide format, sense of space, and the lovely touches of light on the landscape. The changes work well.

The colours are beautiful Alan, I love the highlights that you have on the mainland, they match with the shading in the clouds, well brought together, a lovely composition 😃

Super use of complementary colours. An atmospheric painting, Alan

A very accomplished piece Alan. Those two days made the difference I am sure. Tone and variety of colour and sense of light all work together.

So beautiful Alan. Love those bright patches of Naple yellow in the sky and landscape. The colours are very natural and the whole painting has a luminosity about it.

It's brilliant Alan, I love the format, the 'big' sky is wonderful, great feeling of depth to the landscape and fabulous palette as always.

Love this, Alan. I like the wide format, it says so much.

I have to agree with John's comment wholeheartedly...so often we are too close immediately after a painting session...this is superb now in every respect, Alan! Great article too, really helpful!

Thanks for all your comments guy's, appreciated so much.

That looks beautiful Alan. So many gorgeous colours both in the sky and on land.

What wonderful space and distance love it Alan.

Gorgeous colours, Alan. Reminds me a little of Richard Pikesley's work. Hope you don't mind the comparison - he's a fine painter. Just realised I can 'follow' you so have done so. All rather clunky compared to social media ...

Thanks again everyone. I don't mind that comparison at all Sarah, I do like his style immensely.

Oil on board 25 x 60cm. The finished stage from the two WIP’s that I posted last week. I had to break off to complete another project for a deadline, so it lay there untouched for a few days. When I looked at it again yesterday, I didn’t like any of it, and gave it a complete revamp. I lowered the horizon considerably to shift the focus more on the sky, and painted over most all the old work. A much improved composition I hope. The white blobs on the horizon are Dungeness power station. I’ve made them a touch more prominent than on the photo, it helps to draw the eye round and settle on a focal point. Loosely based on a photograph courtesy of Dawn Farley, but as always, with my own expressive take on things.
