Great painting Alan the foreground is so effective and the castle stands proud in the distance.

Such great mark making and it all comes together so well - a cracker Alan

Another nice vigorous painting. Alan your technique is immediately recognisable.

You've really brought this scene alive. The colours work so well. I like it a lot.

A great job, love the middle ground co,ours leading to the colourful sky. Another cracker.

So much excitement , drama and clever composition - wonderful

Alan I like the contrast between the calmness of the far background and the vibrancy and busyness of the foreground. Great colours too.
Brave, our weather last Saturday was foul. This has that immeditate feel to it, captured only by a plein aire work and an accomplished painter.

As always I love your work Alan and they seem to get better all the time. In this one I particularly enjoy the beautifully textured lane leading to the warm coloured village/ farmhouse. Superb!

Like the colors here, well done!

A very strong and vibrant piece Alan..so much detail and yet very subtley done!!

Alan, I also really like the lane in the foreground, the shapes and cooler colours, leading to the warmer tones at the end of the lane. Especially like the combination of orange and blue in the middle left.

I can only repeat all that's been said Alan, it's terrific and your plein air sketches are paintings in their own right.

Well, I never expected this amount of comments from such a quick piece, I am so grateful to you all.

I can only repeat what everyone else had said, summed up by Fiona!! Brilliant.

Adding something different, but also agreeing with everyone else.....l like this slightly different palette you're using Alan. It's warmer and that foreground green is a great addition.

More, more please! This is lovely Alan - I really like the looseness of the painting and the colours you have chosen.

This is marvellous Alan - so colourful and full of energy.

This is dynamic!

I don't know .... call me observant, but I think... I think they liked it!

And I can see why. Dynamic, I think someone said, and that's just the word. While not a naturalistic painting, it still describes the landscape, showing its folds, undulations and planes - and as with so many of your paintings, there's great depth to this: your eye hits the all important middle-ground, but you've not pulled the trick that so many of us rely on, to have the foreground nondescript so the eye hasn't really much option other than to hit the central area of the canvas. What you have done of course is to have your hottest reds there, contrasted with the white of the house walls....

Clever stuff, and most effective.

AND, another big thank you, I expect that will be it now, It has encouraged me to continue with plein-air painting, within reason of course, some bad weather to come no doubt.

Robert, as you will know by now through my gallery, it is not, and never will be my intention to paint in a naturalistic manner, although I can and do appreciate those skills. Glad you liked this one.

Great painting very effective, Alan. Superb and brilliant colours.

It makes me want to walk down that rutted road. Your work is full of character, Alan.

Another piece where your brushwork is just superlative, Alan, and this has a wonderful range of marks and lines. Superb piece!

Plein-air oil sketch, the second of two small reference works painted last Saturday, Hopton Hall Farm with Stafford Castle in the background. This was down a muddy farm track as you can see. Oil on canvas board, 16 x 20in.
