We are always critical of our own work Adele, I think this works well, I especially like your treatment of the stonework one the gable end. We have very similar buildings locally here and I know how tricky they are to paint.

It looks very accomplished to me Adele. I think it is excellent work.

Nice stonework....

This is lovely Adele love the stonework on the buildings

Looks so good. My worry is about the uneven dark shadow along the grass verge. Assume it's from overhanging tree but none visible related to the shadow

Adele this is just exquisite, its lovely

Superb Adele another real beauty

In essence, this is a good painting Adele - just needs a bit lighter touch, as it feels a bit on the heavy side.

Not inspired!, well, sounds like my normal self appraisal Adele. It is very well drawn and the perspective is good but it does seem to lack that sparkle, all a bit flat and monotone I think is the reason, probably how it was but I usually invent a strong light source. You didn't ask for appraisal so accept my apologies but it hit me straight away.

You have really good strong solid structures here Adele and I agree with Stephen, the way you have indicated the stone work is spot on.

Great painting Adele !

I think this is fantastic Adele!!! You are amazing. By the way I have taken up the brushes again - I think I have been trying to hard and decided to just leave it for a bit and see how thing felt but kept getting flashes !!!! Thank you for your comment.

I'm gob-smacked that so many of you were kind enough to comment on this painting. Thank you so much. I appreciate all comments and ideas on how I could improve on my paintings. Derek, this was an early painting and I do know that the shadow was there. What I can't remember, however, was what it was from. I grant you that it does look odd to say the least so I will have to investigate. Alan, thank you for your appraisal. In some of my earlier work I just copied what I saw as I was not experienced enough to try to change it in order to make a more dynamic painting. I am getting more confident now and beginning to challenge myself. But I agree that a strong light source would have worked well. Donna, I am so glad you have decided to carry on. I am sure that this is the right place to put your work and I am also sure that should you need help, any number of these lovely artists with help.

Oil on Board - Dam Street is on the opposite side of the Whitby Road to us. Water runs along the ditches at you walk along the lane to Loftus Woods. This was one of the paintings I was going to put in my local exhibition. I wasn't very inspired by it. I'm still not.

About the Artist
Adele Elgood

When I was a young girl my parents had a large mirror which had an etching of a "crinoline lady" on. I would spend hours copying this. In the 1960's when I was at Secondary school, I was told to give up painting and drawing as I was useless and would never be any good. Following these words of…
