That’s a cracker Brian. Great depth and believable colours

I agree, lovely solid looking buildings and walls and a great view through to the distance.

Absolutely stunning! Super depth, atmosphere, and sentiment! Almost thought I saw James and his dog!!

You could not have painted this any better Brian! Superb.

This is a beauty of a watercolour Brian, very good indeed

A superb piece that’s beautifully painted.

Super fresh painting of the view. Lovely.

A lovely painting of a beautiful area, and you've got those dark tones in!

A little beauty Brian!

Love it. Great work.

Gosh, such generous comments. I have to agree the view is quite stunning with path & walls leading the eye into the picture but that is Swaledale for you & nothing to do with me. The view threw itself at me as I rounded the corner so I simply had to respond by reaching for the phone to record it. I was rather happy with the paintings progress, until I got to the foreground where last years bracken scared me somewhat. I sat & looked at the picture for a couple of days before proceeding in the full & certain knowledge that watercolour is so unforgiving & it's never too late to ruin a picture. As it turned out I wasn't totally happy with it so I sat & looked at it for another couple of days. In the end I came to the conclusion it wasn't so bad but I could & should do better in the future. So thank you for the encouragement Martin, Tessa, Thalia, David, Heather, Paul,Christine, Hilary, Fiona & Olga. I will try harder next time.

Wonderful sense of a very inviting place and so skilfully painted Brian.

Very weighty man made features, working with softer natural elements, Brian. nicely done.

Thank you Carole, given the weather it was/is an inviting place that gave me the inspiration to try & capture a sense of it.

You're a "hobby painter" who could put many professionals to shame with this painting: it's so good, in so many ways - the light is perfect, AND you've triumphed over Arches paper, with which I have awful struggles.

Thanks Gerry I hadn’t thought of it like that but the contrast between the two elements help make the picture.

Thanks Robert your comments are really encouraging but I have to admit Arches is kinder to me than some others I’ve tried.

Thank you Frederick.

Great painting Brian.

Cheers Stephen, I appreciate your comment.

Great painting with lovely clean washes which is not always easy with watercolour and as been said for a hobby painter you should be very proud of this painting, top class!👍👌

Thank you William, your comments are very flattering & much appreciated. In terms of the painting I am reasonably happy but there are passages that could have been better. They stand out like a sore thumb to me but I guess that drives us to try & improve. I don't suppose I will ever paint the perfect picture.

A real sense of place, like it !!

Thank you Valerie.

This is stunning. The way you painted the stone wall and house is beautiful. Everything is beautiful.

Thank you Lynne for your encouraging comments.

Very nice indeed Brian, I like your confident sharp shadows. I like Arches too, it’s quite forgiving, not that I paint many watercolours.

Thank you Marjorie I appreciate your comments.

Superb, Brian.

My interpretation of a photograph I took whilst walking the Herriot Way. The location is twixt Thwaite & Keld where the Herriot Way parts company with the Pennine Way & in my view much prettier than the previous Great Shunner Fell.

I’m just a hobbyist painter really. No lengthy palmares just a couple of shows with my local club. After a lifetime in Production, Health & Safety & Environmental Management I retired from full time employment to while away the hours doing exactly,……. well…….. what I choose to do. The transfer…
