Smithywood Coking Plant Chapeltown where my father Frederick James laboured 7 days a week for a lifetime. Since 1929 coal was converted into coke for blast furnaces here. The byproduct oils were extracted for the production of Izal disinfectant. Anyone remember Izal Toilet roll? Thank heavens for those lovely, soft, Labrador Retriever puppys.
