I think that’s a good idea if Robert is ok with it.
That’s a fabulous painting.
I think we need to get Dawn involved with this one - I can see it clogging up the forum.  But in principle, I'm quite happy to play ball.

This post has been removed as it violates our forum rules and guidelines.

I’m participating in the ‘artist appraisal’ thread that Paul set up, but that seems to be dying a slow death to some extent - it needs more contributions! Do we really need another potentially long running challenge? It doesn’t affect me because I won’t get involved in it, as I don’t the sketch a day thread - but yes, the forum could easily get clogged up.

I tend to agree with Alan on this.  Re another long running thread potentially clogging up the forum, maybe it could be incorporated into the existing sketch a day thread which could be renamed ‘(Month) 2022 Sketch a Day / Paint the Photo’ ? It’s a shame that more people aren’t getting involved in the artist appraisal thread - it’s one of the most interesting things we’ve had on the forum, but maybe people are looking at it but just not commenting, it’s hard to know. Paul’s doing a great job running it, it would be a pity if it petered out through lack of interest.

That sounds like a better idea Jenny. It's hard to say why more people don't participate in such threads, could be they are limited by time I guess.
I simply don’t have the time (much as I’d like to). But I do enjoy looking at what others have created.  I don’t think such a thread would clog up the forum. (Independent of the discovering artists thread, or sketch a day, etc). However, the forum layout itself does not lend itself well to catching up on various recent topics, when only five current topics are displayed. It is difficult to find something from say a week or two ago!
Like Helen I am finding I don't have enough time to both look at the forum and the gallery and comment.  The site has probably become a victim of its own success in that there is often just too much to keep up to date with and carry on normal life (or abnormal in the case of sorting out a care home for mum!).  So apologies to all those who comment on my paintings when I often don't reciprocate.  For instance lack of participation in a "artist appraisal thread" has been mentioned but I am completely unaware of it and even now I have searched for it without success!  Having said that, I think it is a great site and for those that have the time to do it justice it is worthwhile.
My fear is that we might become another WetCanvas-type site, because in my opinion POL is much better managed, and is not full - as WetCanvas certainly is - of misleading advice and stuff that is technically nonsensical. If Painters-Online were a much bigger site, it could no doubt incorporate all sorts of things we don't have now, and perhaps would allow more Gallery display space, so that posts on the forum and pictures on the gallery could hang around a bit longer and be more easily found.  I suspect though that even if this were feasible (and someone would have to run it all, it would be beyond just a few, however good) it could spell POL's end as a useful resource.    So while I'm happy to do the odd challenge, it would probably be best to keep it within an existing thread.
I'm all for Paul's excellent 'artist appraisal' threads which are so interesting and seem to engage most of us and which introduce us to such a wide diversity of artists and genres. I can't say that its not being supported - it seems to me that it is well supported even if some do cherry pick  only participating in those genres which suit their personal preferences.  Beyond this I do enjoy the general discussions which can be so informative but I do avoid what I would call the 'look at how I did this' threads.

I enjoy watching how others approach a subject, there is much to be gained from it. The monthly challenges on the site are always interesting to see how each artist interprets the challenge and how they use their imagination to complete the task.
