A monthly photo challenge could work and if managed would not block up the system . The advice I had from Dawn was that it needs to be renewed each week or each month to prevent it becoming to large and unmanageable. It also work better for anyone wanting to look back all the have to do is go to the group heading for example Artistic Inspiration and it will be there numbers by week or month. Dawn’s team hasn’t enough members to manage the threads hence the reason I manage one and it would need some to manage the a photo thread . To be honest it’s not a big task and once everyone is aware of how it works it’s almost runs it’s self but yes there is the odd glitch . If it were tagged on to the Sketch a day thread it would need managing as at present that is up to forty something pages again it would work. Someone start of the thread at the beginning of each month and add the photo sent in by other forum members , the thread participants then add their painting or sketching if it’s combined. The alternative is to run it as a separate thread or see if it could be combined into the monthly POL challenge but that would be putting extra work on to the team . Sorry this is a long post but hopefully it might help resolve any concerns etc.

May I just pick up on Jenny's comment about the artist appraisal thread, because I think it touches on other threads such as 'sketch a day' and the like. Although the number of active participants may be small, I am sure I am not the only person who finds them both enjoyable and interesting. The artist appraisal thread has encouraged me to look up the works of less well known artists even if I am not a regular participant.

I do tend to think people are shy at giving constructive criticism, I don't mind it personally and would probably give it, if asked. As for admiration, well yes, I believe that's why we post our paintings. We want someone to like them. We want to be reassured we are creative. Encouraging people, creates positivity and that in turn, maybe, helps people to try things they may not have because of lack of encouragement and a pat on the back from time to time. Constructive criticism is equally important as it maintains a balanced view and a way of moving forward with what you are doing.

While this discussion is ongoing can I sneak a pic of mine in to Challenge ALL of you. . This is on the hill above my home... taken by a neighbour but he gives permission to use it. Sam and I walk up ther3 on Offas Dyke that pesky English guy attempting to contain the Welsh. It's taken from Moel Arthur on the Clwydian hills.
I know a few of you didn't like doing foliage in Roberts challenge, so here we have beautiful foxgloves AND a landscape.
I would so love to see what others make of this Ellen...especially ..
I don't think we need to mutually admire any results but if you like an offering say so. Or ask any questions as to how and why.
I s twoweeks enough. Or shoot me down and ignore it...

At the risk of getting sent to Coventry, I'd say that if all comments are always 'this is fantastic' etc, it ends up devaluing the description 'fantastic'. Equally, there can be nothing as soul destroying as having zero comments at all. A bit of mix and match perhaps? I think that's what Michael was getting at?

I don’t want to steal Roberts thread but here are a couple of photos that I have looked at for years and thought about painting . My own photos so no copyright issues , I honestly don’t know where to start with them I’m sure one of you can paint one of them , or at least sketch it.I particularly like the dandlelion(?) clock Paul. But like you Iwouldn't know where to begin - which medium would be best do we think?![]()

Well, Sylvia…..as you know I don’t paint flowers/landscapes in the ‘traditional’ way, however, I do paint shapes and if you look into this photo there is a lot of shapes there. I’m not promising anything, but if I do paint it I’ll put it on the gallery and see if you or anyone else recognises it!
