Ha ha, ok Alan, will deal with it, next job tomorrow 😟😏
Sorted that dreaded cottage out later yesterday, still some more work to do on it but it's got that space filled in, a bit more added to the sky and my sky line needs a bit of tidying up.
This is developing so well, the cottage doesn’t look like it floating it grounded well by the grasses.its going to look really good when it completed Linda.
Thanks Paul, got to get some seabirds in as well give it a bit of life lol!!
I’m fine with the merged horizon, that’s good. Now this cottage! Well because you’ve literally ‘plonked’ it there as the last job, none of the local colours are evident in it, it’s a couple of shades of grey and doesn’t look as though it belongs there. I would start by using a similar colour and tone from the dark side of the two rocks to the right, this would be your shadow side of the cottage. Yes, really dark... Then introduce just a touch of local colour to the rest of it, finally adding a splash of off-white as the focal point to the left side of the cottage. Just a light smear with a finger! I would introduce more foliage/grasses to create a slight upwards angle so the cottage isn’t fully in view, this will add interest and look like it belongs...! Well this is what I would do Linda, but it’s your painting, which is actually damn good regardless, but sometimes it’s these small details that can make it exceptional!
Thank you for taking your time to look Alan, yes I did think the cottage was too grey and was going to do as you suggest and add some warmer tones. A lesson learnt, don't leave blank spaces !!!
I think this really good Linda, I’ve been watching with interest as I’ve struggled with my first oil, and realise it takes time. I’m so used to working quickly it takes the spontaneity away, but is making me think. Not something I’ve had to do much of recently so that has to be a good thing!
Thank you Katy, oils are a lot harder than you think but I am really enjoying them so don't give up.  Alan and Robert make it look so easy, so any advice I get from them is so appreciated, I want to do better and try to get a style of my own I also struggle with colour mixes so jot down any colours that are recommended so I can add them to my very limited palette. I think I have just about finished with my painting, I have changed the cottage colour to Alans advice, added some more grasses and a few sea birds so here is my hopefully finished painting!!!
I have really enjoyed watching this painting evolve Linda.  I know zero about working in oil but really like this and can see how the effect of the local colour has really made the cottage “belong”.  Lovely painting
Really good job Linda, well worth persevering! A painting worthy of framing and displaying.
This has ended up a lovely painting Linda, full of atmosphere and sense of place. The cottage has finally landed and with Alan’s help, it now looks as though it belongs. My teacher in oils used to tell me off if I little bits of surface uncovered in the early stages, which I was inclined to do, but have managed to drag myself out of! Happy result here. Well done.
I enjoyed seeing this painting evolve and the one thing that strikes me is how well it all tones together. A delightful picture in all respects.
