I'm a big fan of Sky Arts' 'Portrait Artist of the Year' and a fair few of the contestants over the years have used an electronic tablet to help them. Often they clip them to their easels too.  Could anyone recommend to me a low-priced tablet, 10 inch or more screen that is lightweight and reliable please? It will be used for mural painting rather than life portraits, but the principle might well be the same. I would download an app, such as Grid Art, to create a grid over the specific subject photo already downloaded. I would then use the 'grid method' to transpose onto the wall 'canvas'. There are millions available out there, including refurbed ones and 2nd hand ones.  Thanks again, I promise I will contribute to this place rather than just glean information for my own selfish needs haha!
I recommend a Apple iPad very reliable but not the cheapest try and pick uma decent second hand one if you can . I’m sure others will have different opinions on what to buy, my pad i coming up to six years old and in use every day since opening the box .
I agree with Dixie, find your self an iPad!  I’m also a fan of PAOTY but it annoys me when people solely use their iPad/phone to paint from and virtually ignore the sitter, seems quite insulting to me. Often the best work on PAOTY is by the artists who actually communicate with the sitter and make a connection. I don’t object to the iPad being used as an aid, but not to take over completely. You might as well take a photo and go home to paint.
I have an iPad too.  I recommend Jackson’s ‘ArtGrid’ app for your grid process. But not if the tablet you get is older than about 4 yrs - it wouldn’t work properly on my previous iPad

Agree with the others about iPads - I’ve had one for years, it’s very reliable, versatile, and produces quality images.  Like Paul, I use mine every day and wouldn’t be without it.

I have a Samsung Galaxy on a gooseneck holder with a clamp that goes on my easel.

Yes I agree with you totally! For murals, I much prefer the grid method even though the best results are always going to be via projected images which feel like cheating in a way to me. But then again, projecting is nothing new, I might well be wrong but I believe I read that Da Vinci and Rembrandt somehow worked with projected images.

Thanks. Oddly enough, their website is saying new downloads of the app are not available any more!
