Hi all, please accept my apologies for not keeping in touch on here. The whole outdoor mural project I mentioned hasn't begun yet, and so I've had v little to tell. I'm still part-time with some indoor painting work, like repros of old metal badges and an abstract pattern design gleaned from certain football kit shirts. I will try to post some pics but I've failed so far, I think I need to work out how to reduce the image sizes in my Photo Edit.
Yes, you can't go over a certain size of picture on the Forum - I forget what it is - but you have far more freedom on the Gallery.
That's VERY effective - important to see things in their context, and this completely works.
Hi all, my apologies for lack of contributions here but not much had happened regarding the huge wall murals I was preparing to work on. That has changed this month and whilst it all relies on the weather NOT being dampy/rainy, I have made progress.  The wall is approx 12 feet high and 45 feet wide, I will be dividing it into 5 'portrait frames' and muralising 5 ex Leeds United players who the site owner and I agreed on. The first will be Billy Bremner from an iconic photo taken in the mid 1970s. I've used the Grid Method, quite loosely really as my main intention is to get the finer details right rather than, for instance, the positioning of all the goal-net holes which are a real pain to draw and paint :-)  It's a difficult face to draw, primarily because the photo is black & white and 50 years old so hardly highly defined or good resolution, especially when enlarging it multi-times! Bremner is standing in a goal net having just scored, and he's looking up to the crowd, so it all looks a bit odd, to be quite frank about it!
Why not look at other images of Bremner and get a feeling for his likeness?

Believe me. I have. I'm not complaining, just describing the challenges really.
Yes, commissions are like that😳
When so many people will be looking at your work I expect you will want the likeness to be of a standard you are happy with, some who are interested in art will be looking more closely than others. The painting above the stairs is excellent. Will we be seeing all 5 murals when completed. I know this will take some time.

Yes, I really like the 'vibe' on this site, Carol, and everyone has been really friendly whilst being fabulous artists in their own right. An issue I have with forums as well as podcasts, actually, is that I just don't have enough time to really 'subscribe'.  A great advantage with murals is that I'm able to restart as often as I like until I get it to the standard I desire. I hope that doesn't sound pretentious! This wall is probably a hundred yards from the main thoroughfare that is Elland Road, and I haven't been 'bothered' by many visitors so far. I can lock myself in anyway. This Billy Bremner mural is the hardest one of the planned 5, as well as possibly the most iconic for Leeds fans, but I enjoy a challenge and one of the other mural ideas/images is also going to be difficult as I have freeze-framed a clip of him from a match, over 50 years ago. This player is still alive and so I am planning on asking him to come and meet me so I can photo his face to get a clearer image than the one from TV. I will then merge and adjust the modern visage into the 1969/70 shot.  Thanks again for your kind comments.
It will be nice to view your work, James, something a bit different. I wasn't interested in football, but still went with my eldest brother to see Cardiff City (at home) v Aston Villa, so many years ago. Happy Days :)  Will you be including any of the past managers within your murals?
