Call me old-fashioned, but when I click on the category "oil" I expect to see oil paintings, not digitally enhanced "wonder women".  Is there a way we can down-vote pictures, or is that the road to chaos?
It is frustrating when you come across digitally enhanced photos passed of as a painting , however some of the digital painting are very clever and done from scratch. I do comment on the ones I know are done from the start and only if I like the subject. I k now we have this discussion every so often but it’s not going to change the situation. Having a down vote is I think not a wise idea as unfortunately if someone take a dislike to a artist or their style it leaves it open to abuse . I do hope we don’t get into a long discussion again about the only art been that using paint etc, but I do hope that at some point that the so called paintings that are clearly manipulated photos will be stopped.
I agree with Paul that there is some very good digital art on the gallery, but I agree with Norrette that it should be clear that it is digital art - and not misrepresented as oil or acrylics. At present when an artwork is downloaded to the gallery, there are 32 different tick boxes for various mediums used, so possibly there is room for another one? To have another tick box in the 'medium' section, specifically for digital art?  That would hopefully clear up any confusion about how the artwork was created, and we could all move on to have another long discussion about some other matter.....
Sounds sensible.  There is a place for digital art, it's a distinct 'medium' and deserves its own category as much as oil, acrylic, watercolour etc.  I too would like to see an end to digitally enhance photographs on this site.  They have a value, they have a place, but not in a 'paintings' gallery.
Creative digital art has a place, AI pieces do not. Hopefully the person posting these monstrosities will just get bored....forgive me , I feel crap to day so am even blunter than usual.

I agree it should have it's own category in order that people know exactly what they are looking at.
There is already a tick box for ‘digital’ under the header Medium when you’re uploading artwork, it just isn’t shown as a selection on the gallery page.  Would help if it was added there.  I think, though, that of the relatively few artists uploading digital images, they do usually state in the comments under their work that they are digital, and one or two even list the digital packages they use, but unless you’re familiar with them it’s hard to know how much skill was involved in creating the image.  Those, though, that are clearly barely modified photos (and they’re still being posted) are usually very easy to spot!  (Don’t think I’ve seen any AI work posted on the gallery?)

Thought this might open a can of worms ..... and I also think this irritates a lot of us.  I have no problem at all with digital art, provided it IS digital art - that is, created on a device by the artist, and posted with the acknowledgement that it's been done with software.  We have a number who do that. I do have a problem with images taken from the internet and manipulated - unless they're coming from a copyright free source.  What troubles me, and is arguably illegal, are images taken from a conventional artist from their websites, on which their copyright is clearly stated; or from photographic websites which are not open-source.  It's because people do this that so many commercial websites dot their brand name all over the image - alamy, for example, does this.  My own website isn't usable at the moment, but if and when it is, I would take a dim view of any of my stuff being snaffled and manipulated.  I don't know if that's being done here - but then, I'm not always particularly observant!  I would hope it isn't, not least because if someone does one day cut up rough about this, the company (i.e. TALP) could find itself in some difficulty as the publisher.
By the way Sylvia - I'm feeling rotten today as well!  I think a sudden drop in air pressure has set off my neck arthritis (which I'm quite sure it does, whatever doctors may say..).  Perhaps the same is true of you: hope you're feeling better on the morrow; and hope the same for myself.
Oh dear! What is a painting? Never mind the medium….is it something super- imposed over the top of a photo? No. I can tell at a glance…it’s amazing how many can’t. But I’ve just had another thought….super-imposing can bring something new….it depends how far you go I suppose.

Yes, Jenny you are correct there is a tick box for digital when downloading your artwork - apologies that I didn't see that earlier! And it would be good if it showed up on the gallery page, and it was absolutely clear what was created digitally - and not passed off as an artwork in another medium, as has happened, reading Norrette's original comment here. Some people are better at spotting digital work than others !
Thanks all, and Sylvia - your post is not as blunt as my original one, which I deleted before sending. It's the handling of the subject matter that offends, quite honestly. Actually, I will be blunt. There's life nude studies and there's ....  If I wanted to view "page 3" type work, I'd buy a tabloid newspaper.  Will restart looking at the gallery when this stuff stops.  Otherwise it will only encourage others.
