Aha right! Maybe more obvious than we thought!
Been some good books, and even better paintings. Yes mine was Sharpe, no particular book. Just a good read, and watch.
Have to agree Alan one of the best series on the tv.
A second attempt - probably a fairly easy one to guess. The painting is a bit rubbish, so I put a slight filter on it to make it look a bit more interesting.

Poldark?
It’s far from rubbish Jenny, it has mystery and atmosphere...I would guess Poldark too.
Yes, it is Poldark, probably a bit too easy - will have to think of something a bit more obscure for my next one!
I did love the Poldark series, had all the books at one time!
I didn't get that one Jenny, but I've never watched Poldark. Thought I'd do one more.  A bit sneaky maybe, so I'll give a few clues.  Book published about 40 years ago, never been out of print, liked by kids and adults.  Illustrated.  In my drawing the characters LOOK NOTHING LIKE THOSE IN THE BOOK...that might have made it too easy, but they are in the same spirit.  The text is the best clue.
Lew, I'll have a stab at Fungus the Bogey Man.
Can’t guess this one, Lewis, even with your clues.  Great cartoon, though.
Spot on Tony.  Fungus the Bogeyman by Raymond Briggs.  He wrote the Snowman that they show every Christmas, plus many others.  The man's a genius.  Although I've changed the wording slightly, this scene does appear in the book.  For those who don't know it, with the bogeymen everything's back to front.  They like rotten food, being dirty, and hate fresh air because it blows away the smells.  Kids love it for obvious reasons, and so do I (not sure I'm adult yet).
