Thought I’d have one more go at this - not a great copy but hopefully someone will recognise it.
They are lovely Jenny.  Will put on thinking cap…

I think you’ll have to give us a clue Jenny.
(Thought everyone had forgotten about this challenge, it suddenly seemed to run out of steam!) ) A very popular British artist - he was also a war artist and died on active service at a young age.  (A clue to the title of the painting is in the bottom right hand corner.)

I was going to say Paul Nash the other day but changed my mind… but is it?
Alan - no, Paul Nash was a war artist in WWI, this artist was WWII.

How about Eric Ravilious Jenny?   I think it’s a detail from “the waterwheel “

Alan, yes, that’s the one.
Hadn't a clue about this one, I like the painting.  I'll have to look him up.
Eric Ravilious - got to him as soon as the waterwheel was revealed. Also, the style of the painting was more obvious when we saw a bit more. That was another difficult one Jenny.
Ah I missed this. I do like Ravillious’ work. Good choice.
More for your curious minds.  One clue - American.
