I’ve been thinking about it, but getting nowhere fast - Paul’s set not so much a challenge as an impossible task!  Knowing that it’s a British artist probably helps, but I’m not too good on British artists.   Mustn’t give up, though, I’m sure someone will get it eventually!  Agree that Dawn has set her best challenge yet, it’s certainly got everyone thinking and looking more closely at artists they already knew, or discovering new ones.
Rowland Hilder? I’m taking your emphasis on “tree” as a clue here Paul…..he was dastardly good at painting trees!
Sorry I put you off track unintentionally, by referring to a tree, it not Rowland Hilder.  A slight bigger view .
Edward Seago .  River Mist…. From Sylvia the cheat .
Found it - It’s a Seago - Misty Morning, River Thurne, Norfolk - but see that Sylvia had just beaten me to it!  Sylvia,  don’t think there’s such a thing as cheating in this challenge, is there?!

Each for ourselves Jenny.   It’s a learning curve as well.
Well done Sylvia and Jenny , it’s a beautiful painting.
This artist took a particular delight in painting ordinary people
Paul, you are a tease! I did say Seago but not the title, you sent me on a wild tree chase to get me off the scent!
Sorry Fiona it was really unintentional. You did mention him first .
Awe….
Well I hope this one is a bit easier , original is in oil , this is my feeble attempt . I don’t think he is that a well known here.
