Thank you Denise! Pastels are new to me but must say I rather like them. Trouble is I am using my daughters annexe so limited for space and don’t want to make a mess with them!If you don’t want to make a mess with pastels, I have a couple of tips. 1. Get a strip of any old paper and fold it into a V shape length wise. Put the bottom of your working paper into the V to collect all the loose pastel powder whilst you are working. You will occasionally need to tap your working paper to release some of the loose powder. Do not blow it off. 2. If using soft pastels you can use plastic or rubber gloves to hold the the pastels. Alternatively, use pastel pencils. 3. When blending, do not use your fingers, but use a dry brush or torchon. 4. Have a kneadable rubber or blutack at hand for removing any pastel in the wrong place. Hope this helps.

Well I realise I’ve been missing in action for six days, yikes! Just scrolled back and saw what I’d missed, so not going to attempt to comment on all of that, but do love the dog eye!
I’ve not been feeling great so haven’t done anything until today which should be the re-start of our art group after Christmas. We were asked to try a self portrait, always scary and reminiscent of Crimewatch! I did one in pencil with a little gouache for the specs, then a mix of pens, pencil and water, incidentally without my glasses on, so not sure if better or not!

Like the eye you have done Gillian. Great selfies Tessa I like them both but have a preference for the second one. I was tidying my shed up last week and came across and apple core, it hasn’t deteriorated much so I did a sketch of it might do another in a month or two. I don’t think it will have rotted much as it one I made in clay many years ago, it the only bit of pottery I have done it look quite good with a very pale green glaze on the skin.![](https://azure.wgp-cdn.co.uk/app-painters-online/forum/16fca14d-bf8c-4f99-8359-1c3c4eef3832.jpeg)

That dog's eye looks great Denise. Sorry to read you have not been feeling well, Tessa - hope you are feeling better now. Like the pencil in your mouth, Tessa - your really look focused on the drawing. I seem to be posting mine about a day behind - here is yesterday's- the Edinburgh Urban sketchers are doing a collaboration along with the Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay Urban Sketchers - the theme this week is "Light fixtures" - as I was watching pots, I sketched the lights on the cooker hood. (didn't include pots!) Nicely drawn Dixie, any chance in seeing a photo of your pottery apple - sounds really nice (and you did a lot better than me - I did pottery many years ago and don't think I have anything I did then!)![](https://azure.wgp-cdn.co.uk/app-painters-online/forum/8d8a5774-9be7-4130-b6f4-e402ba6f2b52.jpg)
