I think I will join you Alan, if you don't mind.  Like your sketches.  I see the time and motion people have got at your 'eight maids a milking'...and very sensible too. Here's a sketch of someone I knew from way back (in the 1960's) he was in a band that played gigs at pubs and weddings.  He had a tea-chest base fiddle...with one string like all the best players.  I can image him getting on the bus with it.  He was in a trio...one played clarinet the other the piano.  Luckily the piano player didn't have to carry one on the bus, because in those days every pub had one. This is pen and water-soluble black pencil...a really quick way to sketch. Happy New Year!
Thank you for the memory Lewis. One of my earliest memories of dad, was the fact that he played the Tea chest base in a band, that played at his cricket club functions in Loughton Essex .  during INKTOBER, I payed tribute to him by drawing this picture.

Is that March in Cambridgeshire Alan?, I took some photos of a church in the summer when having a socially distanced dog walk with a friend from Wimblington, looks like it. Great sketch. Love the singer Lewis. Mine is a left over oil paint sketch on a scrap of card, with the Nene flooding in mind.
As you say Alan, the memories come flooding back.  Great sketch...I'd forgotten about the washboards.  Tea Chests, washboards...??...great fun. I like your oil sketch Katy.  On card?  Do you have to seal it, I'd have thought the paint would soak through?
Wow so many posts already! Thanks for starting the thread Alan! I shall get something sketched and post it later but just wanted to say what a great start you talented people!

Yes Katy it is St Wendreda church, in my home town of march. Love your oil painting.
Wowee such an array of wonderful paintings and drawings to kick us off.  Mines a bit tame in comparison but just a little sketch of the corner of a house nearby that I can just about see from one of my windows.
Great artwork already on day one of the year hopefully it will continue through the year , despite developing a limp here and there. I will do something to post later as I want to try out my new oil pastels, for now my attempt at a heavy horse a subject I love but find difficult to do. Sorry about the lace as it seems to be smiling, as though saying didn’t get it right did you. I’m not sure if I have posted this one before, sorry if I have.
I’m really glad that this forum topic is carrying on through January- thanks for starting the thread again Alan. There’s some great sketches on here already and everyone’s obviously bursting with enthusiasm for the new year. It’s always fascinating to see all the different styles and subjects, hoping that you can produce something as interesting yourself. I’ve got a couple of sketches for today. This is the first one. Again, it’s a sketch from a photo (year before last) of a lady sitting outside a pub.
When I saw all the sketches of musicians today, I remembered that I’d taken a few photos of a ukulele band in a tea room year before last and thought I’d add my effort too. Anyway, here it is. Again, Happy New Year everyone,
Fantastic sketching already. Thanks Alan for continuing the thread. The sketching forum has been really helpful and everyone is very supportive. It's a great thread.
