Moving away from the subject of food (although thanks, Fiona, for the bread recipe, I’ve made a note of it), I’ve found one positive thing to come from being stuck at home and not able to use the car to take my dog for a walk. I usually drive to the nearest heath, but the NT, much to my annoyance, have closed all their car parks, even though the heath is a huge area where you can easily avoid others and therefore a safe place to exercise. I’ve had to resort to walking in the neighbourhood - we have the River Mole just a short walk from home and although everyone now seems to be heading for the riverside walks, if you go out early it’s fairly quiet. I’d forgotten what lovely walks we have so close to home, even though it does mean keeping my dog on a lead a fair bit of the time. The river is a very relaxing place with the swans floating by, and this morning for the first time I saw a Little Egret. So, have found the car isn’t as essential as I thought, and we’re quickly settling into a new rather enjoyable early morning walking routine. Just a shame, though, that I can’t explain to my dog why she no longer has her usual freedom - or her twice-weekly agility classes that she so loves!

You are right, Jenny, cars are wonderful things but you miss a lot especially if you are the driver. My walk to the cornershop every day for a paper and the few odds and ends we need, has become part of my daily routine. I've done it every day, rain or shine. It's not far, maybe only a mile there and back, so it didn't matter too much if I got wet. I'm not using the shop now, but must continue the walk for the exercise. There's no river near enough for me to walk to unfortunately, but early in the morning (around 6am-when the shop opens) it's amazing what you see. Foxes often, sometimes gray squirrels, little flocks of goldfinches and on one memorable morning a badger trundling down the middle of the deserted road without a care in the world. All this in an urban housing estate.

Being out and about on delivery, or just sitting in the garden, looking a Mother Nature getting on with spring and entering summer, all on its own without a care for us, as you say, the wild life is reclaiming the streets. It’s quite amazing to see. listening to the radio to reports about London smog decreasing. Hearing the birds sing without interruption from cars or planes. Truly wonderful in uncertain times.

I live under the flight path for Luton although it’s 20 miles away, it’s very noticeable how quiet it is without the aircraft around.
It’s almost like a permanent Sunday morning in the street. Nice in someways but sad all the same. My daughter dropped of some shopping yesterday, it was quite upsetting to see my two youngest granddaughters and not have my usual cuddle and kiss, simple thinks in life we take for granted. Well tonight we will FaceTime and have a drink together, madness but there you go.

Good morning outside world. Yes Alan, I read about the pollution already decreasing, doesn't take long does it? My son dropped off a few things yesterday too, Dixie. It's very odd finding the bag on my doorstep and talking to my son half-way up our front path.
I haven't made my customary early morning walk...usually to the corner-shop, but not now... I'll just be walking for exercise. Didn't feel like it this morning. With all the grim news one wonders if you should even go out for exercise.
At least I have a choice, unlike all those who have to work...like Alan's postal work, and my son who's a manager in a care home.
Hugely grateful to all those working to keep things ticking over.
I'll be pottering in a garden, plus some drawing, of course. I'm finishing a page of my 'Fred goes to Paris' comic today.
Odd where ideas come from. A couple of years back I did a few sketches of Parisian life (at least how I imagined it), it was looking through old sketch-books like that, that gave me the idea. I'm posting one of these old sketches here...because, weirdly, it reminds me of the scenes of people living in flats in self-isolation shown on TV. Some singing, some playing musical instruments. So, this old sketch has the feel of that, although never intended. (Who, a couple of years ago, in their right mind, could ever have imagined what's happening to us now?)
I look at art blogs, I'm sure everybody does...there's some wonderful stuff out there. I came across this poignant painting by an Italian artist paying tribute to his countries health workers.
Take care friends.

Good morning Lew.
Your Paris scene is excellent and yes it seems very relevant to today.
its My husband’s birthday today and obviously not what was planned but could be worse! Our one daughter and granddaughter who live fairly near, are calling later to drop present and card off, but won’t be able to come in obviously so will be very strange.
Other pregnant daughter was looking forward and hanging on for her Tesco delivery ordered two weeks ago. It didn’t arrive and after waiting ages she rang them to be told it had been cancelled due to staff shortages! No mention of it coming in a day or two.
So they are well pissed off as have virtually nothing left and their local shops have been dire. Where to go from here? I would drive up to London with stuff if I could get it but probably be stopped by the police. 😢

Tesco's treatment of your daughter is dire. You can well understand that due to staff shortages delivery may have to be rescheduled...but CANCELLED...that's awful. I have an order from Morrison's due in about two weeks, this puts the worm of doubt in your mind. I'm quite prepared for them not being able to deliver every item on my list, but if they just cancel it we're in trouble. It hasn't happened yet...but... I think when this is all over, people will be rethinking where they shop. Tesco's is off my list.
