I just wrote something in the daily sketches forum...initially about the sketches, but it soon moved on to the 'current situation.'   That's a busy thread, it occurred to me we should have a thread elsewhere for that.  Yes?  No?  Maybe?  We'll see. I made my daily early morning trip to our local corner-shop.  It opens at 6 am.  Saw no pedestrians on the way there and back, only one customer in the shop who kept her distance.  Not unusual for me, I have that effect on people. I wanted bread, milk, self-raising flour, coffee.  They only had the milk and coffee.  The shop-keeper said he had some french sticks in the oven, if I'd wait a few minutes. So I went home with a french stick! I've been drawing about a fella who goes to Paris.  I was thinking about doing something different today. But a French Stick!  It's a sign...it's meant to be...sacre bleu!  So it's back to what Fred did next for me today. Moi, walking back up the hill...
Your humour is sublime, Lew, especially during these difficult times. Bri
Excellent Lew, a daily chuckle is a good thing. I was trying to explain to a Hungarian guy I know about the British humour, especially when the chips are down, sadly it was on stony ground.
Love it, Lewis, really made me chuckle as well!  Keep them coming, just what we need at the moment.

Brilliant - humour cuts through everything so keep them coming!
Love that one, Lewis!
That is so funny and really well-drawn Lewis.
Missed this yesterday, wonderful idea. Your inspiration is never far away Lew. It occurred to me that this is a useful reminder - remember to stay at least two French sticks distance!
Thanks everyone for your posts here.  I didn't intend this to be just me waffling, it's for the stuff that is more about the virus situation than art.  Sometimes others experiences can be informative and/or interesting.  Tessa's idea about the french sticks is interesting, I'll have to ask my local shopkeeper if he can get six foot sticks. I made my way down there this morning just after 6am, saw no other pedestrians either going there or coming back...not even dog-walkers.  Today I was after stamps, spam or corned beef, and - as ever - bread.  We seem to be OK for main meals, bread has been a problem.  We were down to two frozen rolls this morning.  Hallelujah...he had bread, I got two loaves, they should last us about two weeks.  Now, I don't want to add to the general alarm....but there was...wait for it...NO SPAM!  He says he's getting some in.  Not to everyone's taste, but I grew up on it.   In the interests of public information I'm going to reprise an old picture I made, because it contains useful recipes using spam.  No need to thank me. Alas, this greasy spoon cafe is no more...how I miss it's ambience. I'm posting one of my Fred goes to Paris pics today...must do something different today...although it's good to have that to fall back on if I get stuck. By the way, has anyway used AMAZON's grocery delivery service?  I looked in their website this morning to see if they were still running.  I ordered a sketch-book, they've said I'll get it by monday...not quite their next-day service, but I was thinking they wouldn't be running normally.  I know they deliver groceries...???
Amazon pantry does have some groceries, but there’s hardly anything of any value food wise on offer at the moment. I did spot some Frey Bentos pies though, being sold by independent stores on Amazon,  they range from around £7.50 upwards for one, then there’s postage. Disgusting black marketeers! I could see how things were developing a few weeks ago, and bought a bread maker and all the flour, yeast etc. whilst there was still stock, It’s been a godsend. There isn’t a bread machine anywhere to be found now, you don’t need a machine of course, but flour and yeast are like gold dust.
Yes Alan, flour was one of the things I tried to get from my corner-shop...no luck...my son said the supermarkets didn't have any.
Ah Alan you’re so sensible! I also couldn’t resist a peep at Amazon’s grocery section ( not to be confused with real supermarket suppliers) and if you want a few minutes amusement you should do likewise! To be fair there is some useful stuff there, especially if you’re looking for play stuff for your children, eg wooden eggs and imitation foods. My favourite item was an emergency expedition pack of sachets-just add water-at nearly £300, don’t laugh it may come to that, especially if there’s a spam shortage. 😀
