Lot’s of lovely work over the last couple of days folk! I feel quite guilty for not posting as often as normal but I am feeling a wee bit stressed at the moment as preparing for a imminent move back to UK so not feeling very inspired. Not packing stuff as keeping my house here for holidays but still lots of things to do! Anyway hopefully I will do something later today!
The paint brush amused me Diane, all these things to hand to sketch! Like the canoes Tessa, the Thames is lovely in places. Mine today is called The Last Pear. There it was, half way up our tree which is huge and over a hundred years old, I could just reach it with extended loppers and it was perfect, no wasp holes, no bruising. Can’t believe it after all the gales. Seems a shame to eat it, but I will!
Oh that's a beautifully drawn pear Katy...hope it was scrumptious! Liked your boats on the Thames Tessa.
My pear tree is still full of them! (Newark).... a lady round the corner remembers the tree being here when she was a child (and she's late 80's now). There's billions of pears covering the grass too.... 😳
Great sketch of the pear Katy.  Tessa, are you going to turn your sketch into a painting?  I love pictures with boats. Diane what could be better than drawing the tools we use.  I had an art class today.  Approached this with trepidation as its was portrait of a child in conte crayons.  We are supplied with the reference image by our tutor.  Turned out better than I had hoped.  Comments please lovely people.
Well Hilary, I think this is an amazing portrait. You have drawn all the features very well and they all harmonise beautifully.
Helen, similar tale to tell, when we moved in 32 years ago an elderly neighbour said our pear tree was huge when she was a girl. Millions of pears and many more wasps. Thankfully the gales brought all but one down just before we went away beginning of September and the wasps and blackbirds finished the windfalls off whilst away. Hilary, that looks an excellent portrait, well done!
Nice pear Katy, did it taste good! Lovely portrait Hilary, it looks well executed. The delicate working of the crayons suits the subject. Well done. Just decided to try a quick ink and wash of a butterfly
Hilary, I think your portrait is just fantastic. All the sketches are great. I got a sketch pad, just to start having a try now and then.
Really like your butterfly Gillian.
Very impressive portrait Hilary. I’ve always found children to be the hardest to capture. In fact I’ve just enrolled for a portraiture course at our local summer school in January so maybe one to try. Katy, hope the pear tasted as good as it looked. Nice butterfly, Gillian. Lots to organise today but will try to post something later (the kangaroos at the bottom of the garden perhaps).
Wow, I’ve only missed a day and so many lovely and impressive offerings! I love the pear, and the background story, the butterfly is simple but delicate and the little portrait is just delightful, beautifully drawn and you should be really pleased especially as first attempt with the conte crayons. Hilary, not sure if I will try a painting from my canoe sketch, actually it’s quite a good idea for the cold wet days which no doubt are coming here! Ron, how wonderful to have kangaroos at the end of your garden. I think that’s a must for drawing/painting at some stage, and lucky you going into summer. I know I haven’t contributed daily this month, but do think having got to this stage, and gained some lovely new contributors, we should try to continue into October and then obviously to the end of this peculiar year! X
