Hello September! Where does the time go? As quite a few forum members enjoy contributing to sketch a day here is an invitation to join in. We are a friendly bunch And enjoy the social aspect as well as the practical challenge of a daily sketch ( or whenever you can!) So sketch away for September!
Thanks Gillian for setting this up. I really look forward to checking in with this each day, and seeing all of your sketches and hearing your news too!.  I loved your moody charcoal scene Gillian, I have yet to try charcoal because as you say its really messy and I have 2 cats who wander over my art board so I can just see all those sooty paw prints all over my cream sofa!
Thanks Gillian, here we go with another new month! I was looking through Moria Huntly’s lovely book Sketchbook Secrets and did this little pencil sketch of some beached boats. I find boats quite difficult to draw to get the right shapes, would love to get out there at the beach sketching, but not able to for the moment.
Thank Gillian, here we go another month don’t know where this year has  gone. Nice boats Tessa, you have the shapes quite well, I agree they are not easy and can be quite a challenge probably why I like drawing and painting them. Today a simple pen sketch of tree from when I was up there taking photos and sketching.
Great boats Tessa, a tricky shape but these look really good. Silver birch are a great tree to sketch so much texture and colour on the bark.  Today I’ve done a little ink sketch of a church I used a piece of leftover pastel paper for the colour which I thought gave it an “old” look.
Wow we are keen to get started this month. Lovey sketch Hilary must say I like a church and enjoying your trees Paul! Nice boats Tessa I have struggled with boats myself but an artist friend gave me a tip a few years ago so I have sketched one using said tip, took me minutes. Thought it worth a share. Use a figure eight on its side then use it as your base. I’ve left a hint of the eight in the picture to see what I mean.
Thats a really great tip Gillian
Nice church Hilary, very good perspective. Oh yes the figure 8 tip Gillian. I think that was in an article recently in The Artist magazine, very useful! Funny how a simple tip like that works so well.
Thats a very good sketch of the church Hilary and a good move to use the pastel paper, it does give it a older look. Very good tip about the figure eight for boats, didn’t know about that. Often little tips help to achieve things. My offering today is a sketch of trees done a few days ago, still having a problem hold pencil and brush, thankfully the iPad doesn’t need to be pressed to hard.

Ive been playing today with some Inkonic fineliners, they are very  good for small details but also can be activated with a water brush to get some nice effects.
Sorry to hear your hands are problematic at the moment Paul hope they settle down quickly, despite that your sketches are always great! Love the flowers Hilary, I have seen a few articles about inkonic fineliners must say your sketches show the colours are beautiful! Might invest in some myself! I have just sketched a sweet pea using a green and purple pen plus a wash of water
Sorry about your hand problems again Dixie, must be really annoying apart from painful. Hilary I like your Inkonic liners, good colours and give a really nice effect. I’ve not heard of them, are they something new? And another delightful and delicate flower pic from Gillian.  I have visitors for a few days so probably won’t get much of anything done, but will be looking in! X
