Great charcoal sketch of the miner Denise I know of the Pitmen Painters and there were some on Antiques Road Show recently.  My Grandfather was a miner from Eastwood ( from a long line of miners ) and recall him talking about working in the Pit so your sketch resonated!  I once went down a pit in Rotherham right to the coal face. Hated it, it was hot, dirty, noisy and cramped . Here’s a pastel of Stromness Shopping Week Fireworks Display

This caught my eye, Gillian. Beautiful colours which stand out so well on the black paper. Lovely!
It's a spectacular display Gillian, beautiful reflections and colours.
I’ve missed a few days of looking in here, so just catching up and interested to see the mining painters discussion. I was introduced to Norman Cornish’s work on this website a few years ago and love it. I bought a book of his work and will dig it out again later, it’s always an inspiration and I love ‘everyday life’ paintings. That’s a wonderful print Marjorie. I like the coracle fisherman, reminds me of trips to west Wales, also the miner Denise, and Gillian’s fireworks, but especially the coastline in the background. Must make an effort today!
I'll be sketching this sort of thing for the next week then I'll do a painting I think. I would like to practice some tunnel work with the men in before I decide what sort of painting to do. I've done two sketches tonight but the first, I laughed so much it looked liked one miner had had a bottle of gin, his body looked so twisted and peculiar walking down the street with his fellows. I might take a photo and put it on to give you a laugh, it's not good though.
This is the one that went sideways. 😂
Like them both Denise , maybe he has been on the bottle. Apart from the bendy miner it’s actually a good sketch .
Good sketches Denise.  I like the Tilley lamps one especially.  I once lived in a rank of miners cottages near Bristol.  The locals had lots of stories of what went on in the mines.  Apparently one of the ponies that pulled the carts in the mine was a retired circus pony and used to do tricks!
Very good mining sketches Denise. I grew up in South Wales so coal mining, so the  background and history of it was never far away. I went to art group today and this is my drawing of the Monnow Bridge at Monmouth from a photo taken earlier this month on a day out there. I am trying to get back into more sketching with a view to painting and realise how quickly you lose it even after a few weeks or months!
That’s a lovely sketch Tessa,. I do agree you soon get out of practice, I have bought some water soluble sketching pencils with the intention of doing more .
Nice sketching Tessa..remember doing one years ago just a line drawing had a flick through my Welsh sketch books and think it's the same one..
Lovely sketches from everyone.  I had my day in London Zoo well equipped with pots of paint..large,   brushes…large… and a ladder.  .  Only to find the elephants had been moved year# ago to Whipsnade… saw al lions bum, some bored giraffes  some beautiful butterflies  some great penguins ,  so next stop Chester Zoo.  Or even our lovely Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bae ,  so came home and sketched some Fuschia into my concertina book. M
Lovely fuchsias Sylvia, and sounds like a fun day at the zoo! Yes Bari that’s the same bridge, you’ve obviously got more of the opening visible. Good shadows all round.
