The work of Norman Cornish is absolutely brilliant, his paintings should be worth a lot more than TE painting .
Seriously all of the artist involved in the Pitmen are really good and certainly deserve a look at their work.
Strange in a way that because we know about a particular artist, we assume that others have as well.

Great charcoal sketch of the miner Denise I know of the Pitmen Painters and there were some on Antiques Road Show recently. My Grandfather was a miner from Eastwood ( from a long line of miners ) and recall him talking about working in the Pit so your sketch resonated! I once went down a pit in Rotherham right to the coal face. Hated it, it was hot, dirty, noisy and cramped .

My father was from a family of Welsh miners, but he trained as an electrician so that he would not have to follow his older brothers down the mines. Justaswell he did, otherwise I would have ended up in Abervan. I’ve been down 3 mines, coal in Wales and tin in Cornwall and copper locally. I would not want to work in one for anything. I enjoy light.
