Nice sketch of your new man Katy. Like the mushroom sketch Tessa, not easy things to sketch. I have finished the card but have agreed not to display it till next Wednesday. I have been quite lax and not done any sketches for a few days, the attached is what I was working on when asked to do the card. I will go back to it now and add it to the October challenge. still
some work to do, I do love doing these paintings, I think it’s the bright colours something I don’t use a lot.

The Fungi is looking good Tessa and so is your painting Paul. I've just done a couple of very quick sketches and used the charcoal sticks for the first time. They are an absolute delight to use, so light, not that they improve my drawing skills through but I shall enjoy using them in the coming months.

Looking forward to seeing your finished card Paul. That’s a very colourful sketch of rose hips and reminds me of picking them, as a child at school. Those charcoal sketches are very good. I also find charcoal a great medium to use. Lately, I’ve been trying to decide what medium to use for sketching now and been through watercolour pencils, watercolour paint and markers but might give charcoal another go.

I’m greatful for this thread Ron because I’ve never drawn or sketched before and because of this thread, I just give it a go. I think the sketching is coming on ok and the last couple of painting I’ve done, I’ve sketch some things in before painting them and it’s definitely helped with the paintings I’ve done. Now I am going to try and sketch what I actually want to paint, before I even start a painting, that’s what I’m thinking anyway.

Your sketches are looking fine Denise, I don’t use charcoal much as I make such a mess of everything I touch.
I do have a charcoal pencil but still get it on my fingers etc. I much prefer using graphite sticks , it easy to blend them with a little water and a brush, I personally think they look a bit like charcoal. Not a specific sketch but the base sketch for a watercolour. A Tyne tug towing a ship out of the docks , I want it to be quite misty and have the aft ( one of the few naval terms I know , well that clean anyway) fading into the mist. Sorry just realised I had not cropped the photo.

Wow great pieces of work everyone and lots of experiment with new mediums whilst I have been on my travels! I am now in quarantine ( along with my little dog Honey who no longer lets me out of her sight, even in bed! ) so as of tomorrow I have no excuse to sketch or draw! I have splurged on some new supplies for my arrival so have some new mediums to play with, Inktense pencils, uni pens, Carbothello pastel pencils, Derwent half pastel set ,and a new sketch pad! Oh and some pastel paper. Denise I also like charcoal but as Paul says it’s messy! Agree that a graphite pencil is nice to work with and easy to blend etc with less mess. Only recently started using both!
