I'm watching David Hockney on Sky Arts talking to Melvyn Bragg. I definitely didn't plan on doing any sketching and didn't have anything to hand but a HB pencil. The sketch I did from the tv took about half an hour as he was talking and clips are being shown of his life and artworks. I think I caught a bit of a likeness although the glasses are a bit small but I had no eraser to hand so because the glasses are not right, everything else was out but still, I've been practising rapid sketching, so was happy with it at speed. Back to the program now. I'm sure you are all watching it.

I'm not watching it because I don't have Sky (and don't wish to funnel cash to its owner, either). But you've caught Hockney, whom I recognized immediately; and maybe he has a smaller pair of glasses, too! Specs aren't a permanent feature, so you can be forgiven for exaggerating or minimizing them.

Robert, we have a satellite tv set up which includes all of what I would call normal channels, installed about 18 months ago for a one off payment of about £120. We decided on this when we dumped Sky because they were increasing the price we were paying by about 50%!
The only Sky channel included on the satellite set up is Sky Arts, so I am quite happy with that.

Hockney can generally do no wrong in my eyes, I’m referring just to his artwork here of course… he’s an exceptional talent and has consistently produced stunning and exciting new work throughout his long career!
I recorded this programme, but I’ve yet to watch it all … I found that there was far too much slow and laboured talking by Hockney, he’s in his 80’s of course so is entitled to be slow and ramble on a bit - and not enough views of his artwork which would have broken it up a bit!
Perhaps it gets better as the programme progresses, but so far, not overly impressed! Sky Arts can do better, they have done on previous Hockney documentaries!
