I seem to remember something we did at art college when they put a projected image onto the life model in a dark studio.  Not sure if this .last sketch of the day makes the grade pen and wash view of Winter hill from Pennington Flash (winter hill was the main tv mast for the area) ...
Home and dry both had our second jab..
Have spent some time sketching as at the moment in the the can’t paint mood . Tried a selfie (second ever attempt) something I don’t do and due to finding portraits difficult. Done with a B6 pencil and blending sticks, I think the sticks made it much easier . Looks a bit like me , had problems with the eyes as I over worked them.  A few other bits I’ve done .
Latest technical exercise from my course.  It's a white ball on a white background. The idea was just to capture the various forms of shadow accurately.  This is the first work I've ever done with charcoal.  Was fun, and hopefully not the last time.
It’s a great exercise to practice. Avoiding any hard edges to the sphere is one of the objects of this exercise which you’ve achieved. The sphere itself needs much more shading to the shadow side, gradually feathering out.
My fastest sketch ever on a 9ml walk along the Weaver River
I don’t normally sketch with pens bit decided to give this owl a try . I do like the eyes .
Quick sketch using pastel pencils from me this fine Orkney evening!
Haven’t done much lately But have been looking in now and then, just other things going on, especially tackling our garden now that lockdown is easing and the weather is better. Our art group subject this week is anything to do with gardens or gardening and I was reading about the Lost Gardens of Heligan and came across a photo of the old door that the derelict garden was discovered through. This is a mix of coloured pencil, pens and gouache.
Think the image is upside down Tessa but looks fine , but I do like bricks...
Nice crofters cottage Gillian, and love door and brickwork Tessa despite been upside down or maybe it’s really that way.  Pencil sketch of a snoozing barn owl used the blending sticks again, I’m getting to like them a lot . P
Thanks Dixie. You’re right it does look upside down but it isn’t. Just looks a bit weird or maybe just my work! I like your snoozing owl and the previous one, and Gillian’s lovely little cottage. How nice does a fine Orkney evening sound!
